Function of the micro-credentials

/ purpose

The micro-credential is designed for participants who need to acquire specific skills necessary for performing tasks related to monitoring the flow of materials using the

Warehouse Management System (WMS).

Possible target groups The WMS operator micro-credential is intended for employees in warehouses or logistics and distribution centers who have experience in warehouse operations without using warehouse management software. It is also aimed at students who have obtained qualifications such as: road traffic technician, railway traffic technician, logistics technician in transportation, and transport and forwarding technician. This micro- credential serves as an opportunity to upgrade their qualifications, providing them with

better mobility in the job market.

Typical work/professional tasks The Warehouse Management System (WMS) is a software solution that manages inventory and operations in warehouses and distribution centers. The WMS system has three main functions: inventory management, task management, and execution, as well as reporting and analysis.

In this context, the WMS operator performs the following tasks:

•          Manages inventory

•          Manages tasks related to warehousing goods

 

 

•           Prepares reports and Analysis

1.                      Collect and prepare documents for executing warehouse processes

2.                      Manage inventory

3.                      Organize goods in the warehouse

Validation criteria procedures
The participant in the program can to:

 

1.1   Review documentation from clients and orderers;

1.2   Issue orders for the execution of warehouse processes;

1.3   Execute warehouse processes according to the received order.

 

2.1   Monitor and allocate inventory/reserves in the warehouse;

2.2   Track locations and plan the capacity of goods in the warehouse;

2.3   Receive goods and store received items;

2.4   Plan the relocation of inventory in the warehouse to optimize space;

2.5   Manage outgoing orders and plan routes and truck loading.

 

3.1   Manage storage tasks according to the type of storage and the area for placing goods;

3.2   Prioritize and allocate orders for inbound and outbound shipments;

3.3   Manage and assign employees based on orders and zones in the warehouse;

 

3.4   Execute direct tasks for inbound and outbound goods in and from the warehouse, such as:

•        Receiving

4.1   Based on the data read from the system, prepare reports and analyses for:

•        Inventory and warehouse capacity

•        Completed work

•        Employee productivity

•        Quantity of stored goods by type

•        Quantity of available equipment.

Additional information (if needed) Entry level / prerequisites Work experience as a warehouse operator or Completed secondary vocational education in:

•        Road Traffic Technician

•        Railway Traffic Technician

•        Transport and Forwarding Technician

•        Logistics Technician in Transportation

•        Towing Technician Machine Driver .

Possible duration (recommendation) The micro-credential is obtained after 100 hours of active instruction.

Position in the chain of educational programmes In the existing educational programs, the WMS Operator is not represented as such, but all qualifications from technical education in the Transport, Traffic, and Warehousing

sector are based on the occupation standard of Warehouse Operator.

Reference to NQF The term is not defined in the NRC under the existing legal framework.
